The first event of the BVI triathlon season, the TSC Tri is set to take place on Saturday, February 11. This fun fundraiser for the Tortola Sports Club is open to individual men and women, Open Teams and Corporate Teams and consists of a 750m swim, 20k bike ride and 5k run. The swim starts at the beach of Baughers Bay at 7 am. Registration will take place at the Tortola Sports Club at 6pm on Friday, February 10.
Following its introduction last year, the Corporate Cup returns – teams for the Corporate Cup be be comprised solely of employees. There will also be an Open Team category as well as Men’s and Women’s individual.
The four entry categories:
1. Men’s individual – entry US$30
2. Female individual – entry US$30
3. Open Team (ringers allowed) – entry US$30 per team member with teams consisting of 2 or 3 individuals)
4. Corporate Team for Corporate Cup (no ringers – employees only, must be a three person team) – entry US$100 per team.
Sixteen teams competed in the 2011 TSC Tri – six in the inaugural Corporate Cup category and ten in the Open Teams category. Deloitte #1 took the Corporate Cup while Horizon Yacht Charters bested the other Open Teams. In the individual categories, Chris Ghiorse won Men’s and Kay Reddy the Women’s. The 2011 event, that took place Saturday, February 12th, saw the best turnout to date.
The swim took place off Baugher’s Bay beach with two laps including a quick sprint ashore to round a mark before heading back into the sea for a second lap. The cyclists then headed West to a turning mark about 500m beyond Ocean Reef Villas and then back to the Tortola Sports Club (TSC) where runners completed the sprint triathlon with a 5k run that took them East to Port Purcell roundabout and then into the ‘banking district’ of Road Town and a finish back at the TSC.
Please remember that this is a fund raising Triathlon for Tortola Sports Club. While it is recognized that entrants will give it their all, they should recognize that the event is a fun triathlon, the marshals and organizers in the event will try their best to make sure that everything is performed as well as possible. Please treat the event in the fun spirit in which is it intended!
