BVITF Youth Development Event 1: Report and Results
On Saturday March 16th, 27 young and enthusiastic competitors, all of who were under 14, gathered at Trellis Bay, Beef Island to take part in the first triathlon youth development event of the season which was hosted by BVI Triathlon Federation (BVITF) and BSAFE.

We are focusing the development events on all youth 16 and under (age on Dec 31st 2013). There will be extra focus on children born January 1st, 1998 through December 31st, 1999 as directed by the BVIOC for further development towards the Youth Commonwealth Games which will be held in Samoa in 2015.

Congratulations to everyone who took part this morning. It was fantastic to see so many of you out there – 18 for the swim and 19 for the run is a new record for Dickie’s Duos.
Well done to James and Tash, our winners today and to Hayley, who flew through the field in her debut race to finish second. Well done to Adrian for managing to fight off the young contender this week, snatching third from Mitchell’s grasp.

The first event of the Virgin Islands triathlon season took place on Saturday in Road Town.
The fifth annual Tortola Sports Club Triathlon was won by Richard Morgan, the national sprint champion, for the second consecutive year. He shaved almost a minute of last year’s time when finished in 1 hour and 5 seconds.
Mr. Morgan was also the fastest cyclist with a time of 32:15,” while John Argyros was second in the Men’s Division with a time of 1:52,’ followed by Adrian Dale in third place. James Carr finished in fifth place in the Men’s Division, but had the fastest run time of 19:25.”

The first event of the BVI triathlon season, the TSC Tri is set to take place on Saturday, February 9. This fun fundraiser for the Tortola Sports Club is open to individual men and women, Open Teams and Corporate Teams and consists of a 750m swim, 20k bike ride and 5k run. The swim starts at the beach of Baugher’s Bay at 7 am. Registration will take place at the Tortola Sports Club at 6pm on Friday, February 8.

Tom Sarginson made it a come from behind win in a tough first aquathon for the year when the Dickie’s Duo Series continued on Saturday January 5, 2013 on Tortola.
Sarginson managed to overtake Tash Ruscheinski not far from the finish after Ruscheinski had gained a good head start over Sarginson on the 5K run after being first to come out of the water in the 200m swim at Baugher’s Bay but yet third to kick off on the road.

On a cool Saturday morning and despite early morning rain 14 duathletes lined up for the 3rd leg in the Dickie’s Duo duathlon series. Veteran running champion Adrian Dale noted that “the 4k run, 8k bike and 6k run favoured a good runner, but there were a number of people I haven’t completed against so I had to wait for the gun to see who was setting the pace”.
Katrina Crumpler led from the start with Dale, John Argyros, Daniel Mitchell and Adam D’Monte hot on her heels in the lead pack. Crumpler maintained a 20 second lead into T1 but staying with a running shoe gave D’Monte and Mitchell a 30 second headstart out of the transition.

The Santathon took place on Sunday with 18 adults and children taking part with a predominantly female field. Peter Wilmott won the adult race completing the 400m swim, 6-mile bike ride and 1.5 mile run in 43 minutes. Carolina Pettigrew was second, 1 minute and 14 seconds behind Peter, while Tia Beckmann was third, 43 seconds behind Carolina.

The Santathon is back and will take place on Sunday December 9th. Events will be held for adults and children out of Captain Mulligan’s at Nanny Cay. Fancy dress encouraged and champagne prizes for best outfits will be awarded. The adult event will comprise a 400m swim, 6 mile bike ride and 1.5 mile run, while the children will compete in duathlons (run-bike-run) on the Mulligan’s property and environs, no roads will be used.

In the 2012 BVI Steelman triathlon held on Saturday (Nov 10), defending men’s champion Antony Spencer snatched defeat from the jaws of victory on the final furlong. Young pretender Richard Morgan slowly reeled Spencer in on the run to eventually win with a time of 2 hours, 33 minutes and 24 seconds, beating him by 2 minutes and 24 seconds. Liezl Van Der Schyf comfortably won the women’s division with a time of 3 hours, 1 minute and 19 seconds; Henkle were the team winners with a time of 2 hours, 42 minutes and 51 seconds.
