Michael Ellis wins 7th annual BVI X Tri
In the 7th annual BVI XTri, a triathlon held in the off-road wilds of Smuggler’s Cove and Belmont held on Sunday, Michael Ellis won the event with a time of 48 minutes and 50 seconds. A newcomer to the BVI triathlon scene but an experienced mountain biker and triathlete, Ellis beat second placer Andrew “Tubes Thompson by one minute and twenty-two seconds. Chris Ghiorse was third. Although off-pace today, Thompson’s 2009 course record of 47 minutes and 27 seconds still stands. Kay Reddy won the individual ladies and Team Broadsword, once again surprising many, won the team category.

The BVI X TRI takes place on Sunday, the 27th March 2011, at Smugglers Cove with the race starting at 7.30am. The fun race is open to individuals of all athletic abilities and there will be three categories of racing: X Tri, Try A Tri and Junior.

Sixteen teams competed in the 2011 TSC Tri – six in the inaugural Corporate Cup category and ten in the Open Teams category. Deloitte #1 took the Corporate Cup while Horizon Yacht Charters bested the other Open Teams. In the individual categories, Chris Ghiorse won Men’s and Kay Reddy the Women’s. The 2011 event, that took place Saturday, February 12th, saw the best turnout to date.

This fun fundraiser for the Tortola Sports Club takes place on Saturday February 12. It is open to individual men and women, Open Teams and Corporate Teams and consists of a 750m swim, 20k bike ride and 5k run. The swim starts at the beach of Baughers Bay at 7 am. Registration will take place at the Tortola Sports Club at 6pm on Friday, February 11.
New for this year is the Corporate Cup with winners taking home a day sail. Only Corporate Teams can win the Cup and all team members must be employees.

On Sunday 5th December the BVI Mountain Bike Club will be having a group ride from Pusser’s in Road Town (opposite Ferry Dock) to Pusser’s at West End, Soper’s Hole, and back. The group will meet at 7am and there will be a break at West End before returning back to town.

Chris Ghiorse won the 2010 BVI Steelman with a time of 2:32:07 on Sunday, October 24th. This is an olympic distance triathlon with a one-mile swim held in Well Bay on Beef Island, followed by a 25-mile bike race lapping the road from the airport to just into East End, and ending in a six-mile run along the roads and trails of Trellis Bay.

An impressive grid featuring no less than five former triathlon race winners lined up Saturday morning for BVI Triathlon Federation’s first national sprint championship over an exciting new course at Soper’s Hole including brand new Chris Spencer designed bike racks and 5 foot monster swim buoys.
Tension on the start line ran high in a wide open men’s event featuring Andrew “Tubes” Thompson, lightning quick on the bike but vulnerable on the run, Adrian “Road Runner” Dale a wing heeled runner, but vulnerable on the swim, Adrian “Transylvanian Express” Copacaneau , the fastest triathlete this side of Romania, Antony “Chorpedo” Spencer strong in the water but vulnerable on the bike, and Owen Waters all round tough hombre.

Andrew “Tubes” Thompson took control of the TRIBVI event shortly after the swim course and led all the way to victory in 1 hour 1 minute, 28 seconds last Sunday at Nanny Cay. The event featured an altered course of a 400 meter swim, in the Nanny Cay lagoon. Four charged the course that also included a 12-mile bike from Nanny Cay down to Frenchman’s Cay junction in West End and back to Nanny Cay, and a five-mile run from Nanny Cay to Pockwood Pond and back to Nanny Cay.

The rising sun broke through low clouds over Baughers Bay beach to reveal a record fifty six competitors limbering up for this years 4th TSC Triathlon.
At the command of chief umpire Richard White the swimmers, solo competitors and team members alike, tore off into the still waters of Road Town harbour heading for the first mark of the 750 metre swim course. Much milling of arms and thrashing of legs ensued, as swimmers battled for prime position at the first marker. To the delight and cheers of the crowd Catheryn Hempel surged ahead of the pack setting an early lead for Maples Girls As the race progressed former winner Antony ‘the Chorpedo’ Spencer forged to the front with mystery competitor Terry Donnavon right on his toes.

Andrew “Tubes” Thompson won the 2007 BVI X TRI last Saturday. The off-road triathlon took place in Smugglers Cove.
The triathletes began the race with a short run from the beach and then dived into the pristine water to head for the first marker. The swimmers completed a triangular course back to the beach, ran round the beach marker and then back in again for a second lap.
