Dickies Duos Event #3
On a cool Saturday morning and despite early morning rain 14 duathletes lined up for the 3rd leg in the Dickie’s Duo duathlon series. Veteran running champion Adrian Dale noted that “the 4k run, 8k bike and 6k run favoured a good runner, but there were a number of people I haven’t completed against so I had to wait for the gun to see who was setting the pace”.
Katrina Crumpler led from the start with Dale, John Argyros, Daniel Mitchell and Adam D’Monte hot on her heels in the lead pack. Crumpler maintained a 20 second lead into T1 but staying with a running shoe gave D’Monte and Mitchell a 30 second headstart out of the transition.
Wilmott takes Santathon
The Santathon took place on Sunday with 18 adults and children taking part with a predominantly female field. Peter Wilmott won the adult race completing the 400m swim, 6-mile bike ride and 1.5 mile run in 43 minutes. Carolina Pettigrew was second, 1 minute and 14 seconds behind Peter, while Tia Beckmann was third, 43 seconds behind Carolina.
Ho ho ho, a swim, bike and run
The Santathon is back and will take place on Sunday December 9th. Events will be held for adults and children out of Captain Mulligan’s at Nanny Cay. Fancy dress encouraged and champagne prizes for best outfits will be awarded. The adult event will comprise a 400m swim, 6 mile bike ride and 1.5 mile run, while the children will compete in duathlons (run-bike-run) on the Mulligan’s property and environs, no roads will be used.
Morgan Wins Steelman Crown
In the 2012 BVI Steelman triathlon held on Saturday (Nov 10), defending men’s champion Antony Spencer snatched defeat from the jaws of victory on the final furlong. Young pretender Richard Morgan slowly reeled Spencer in on the run to eventually win with a time of 2 hours, 33 minutes and 24 seconds, beating him by 2 minutes and 24 seconds. Liezl Van Der Schyf comfortably won the women’s division with a time of 3 hours, 1 minute and 19 seconds; Henkle were the team winners with a time of 2 hours, 42 minutes and 51 seconds.
